Applied Acoustic Design and Formula 1

This is the starting grid from a recent Formula 1 Grand Prix. Please click on one of the AAD coloured cars to see the nature of work AAD has performed:

Grid 1 & 2

Measurement and evaluation of vibration transfer function from proposed new chassis shaker rig location to nearby wind tunnel and metrology laboratory; co-working with team to design drop rig, supply & operation of drop mass, evaluation of vibration transfer to sensitive locations from drop mass and 1kJ breaker. Planning support for engine dynamometer test cell development proposal, including design strategy for noise and vibration mitigation.

Grid 5 & 8

Acoustic benchmarking for existing wind tunnel facility; provision of planning support including ambient noise benchmarking, support with building design noise mitigation strategy including external noise propagation mapping. Provision of aero-acoustic refinement technical support with performance verification of new facility. Benchmark measurement of existing engine test facility, provision of noise emission and mitigation planning support for new power-train test facility including external noise propagation mapping; assessing contractor's proposals, provision of acoustic verification and commissioning.

Grid 9 & 12

Determination of cam-rig sound power levels; establish noise emission criteria/building performance requirements; prepare upgrade acoustic specifications; assess contractor's proposals. Transient test rig-rooms feasibility study; benchmarking overseas engine test facility, provision of acoustic design strategy; assessment of contractor's proposals; provision of custom construction element specifications and details necessary to mitigate noise and vibration.

Grid 11, 13, 15 & 16

New engine test cells; benchmark and set noise emission criteria; provision of custom construction element specifications and details necessary to mitigate noise and vibration.

Grid 14 & 21

Provide noise emission and mitigation planning support for new wind tunnel. Acoustic detailing for wind tunnel control room refurbishment and remediation works. Bench-mark existing gearbox test facility, provide noise emission and mitigation planning support for new gearbox test facility.

Grid 19 & 20

Planning support for landlord development proposal for engine test cell, including ambient noise benchmarking, building design and specification support with external noise propagation mapping.
